01Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how Janette ("we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when contractors use our service and when their customers pay invoices through us. It works alongside our Terms of Service.

02Information We Collect

From contractors

  • Account & contact info — your mobile phone number, name, and business details.
  • Business data you create — jobs, quotes, invoices, customer names and balances, crew, hours, schedules, and files you upload.
  • Messages — the texts you exchange with Janette and the audio you send for transcription.
  • Usage data — how you interact with the service, device and log information.

From your customers (when they pay)

  • Payment details — collected directly by Stripe; we receive a confirmation and limited transaction metadata, not full card numbers.
  • Contact details you or your customer provide to deliver a receipt (e.g., a phone number).

03How We Use Information

  • To provide and operate the service — quoting, invoicing, scheduling, crew and money tracking.
  • To send account, service, and transactional text messages.
  • To process payments through Stripe and route customer payments to you.
  • To transcribe voice messages and respond to your requests.
  • To secure, maintain, and improve the service.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your business data to advertise to your customers.

04Text Messaging

Janette communicates by SMS. By providing your number and starting an account, you consent to receive recurring service and transactional messages, including automated ones. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out anytime by replying STOP, or get help by replying HELP. We retain a record of consent and opt-outs to honor your choices and meet legal requirements.

05How We Share Information

We share information only as needed to run the service:

  • Stripe — to process subscription and customer payments and verify contractor identity.
  • Twilio (or our messaging provider) — to send and receive text messages.
  • Service providers — hosting, transcription, and analytics vendors bound to protect the data.
  • Legal — when required by law, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the service.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

06Payment Information

Janette does not collect, see, or store full card numbers. Card data is entered into payment fields hosted by Stripe and handled under Stripe's security standards (PCI-DSS). For customer invoice payments, funds are routed by Stripe directly to the contractor; we do not hold those funds. See Stripe's privacy policy for how it handles payment data.

07Your Data & Export

The business data you put into Janette is yours. You can export it at any time, including QuickBooks-ready files, and you can ask us to delete your account and associated data, subject to limited legal retention requirements described below.

08Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of it. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising. California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to non-discrimination for exercising those rights.

To exercise any right, text us or email privacy@getjanette.com. We will verify your request and respond within the timeframe required by law. [Counsel to confirm verification method and state-specific disclosures.]

09Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. After account closure, we retain limited records as required for legal, tax, accounting, and dispute-resolution purposes, then delete or de-identify the rest.

10Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to notify you of incidents as required by law.

11Children

Janette is built for businesses and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12Changes & Contact

We may update this Policy from time to time and will notify you of material changes. Questions or requests? Email privacy@getjanette.com or text +1 (775) 347-6876.
